The National Capital Authority is responsible for the National Carillon, a concert instrument of 55 bells and one of the largest carillons in the world. Two live public concerts are played by our carillonists each week.
We are seeking expressions of interest from qualified musicians to learn to play the National Carillon. This is an opportunity to join an established team of professional carillonists. Places on the student program are very limited.
Applicants must demonstrate:
- A high standard of education in keyboard skills, although other instruments will be considered.
- Experience in both solo and ensemble performance.
- A high level of theoretical skills allowing arrangement of scores across to carillon.
- An interest in improvising.
Applicants need to commit to 40 one-hour weekly lessons for the first 12 months and monthly lessons in the second 12 months. Applicants also need to commit to preparing, rehearsing and regularly playing a broad repertoire of works at the Carillon as part of our concert program. Tuition fees are $100 per lesson. In some cases, the NCA may be able to subsidise the costs of lessons.
Please provide your expression of interest in 500 words or less with your resume outlining your instrumental education and contact details for two referees. Your application should be sent to email@example.com.
Expressions of Interest close midnight Wednesday 1 March 2017.
