Things to check before you submit
Please read the following guidelines before sending us your application.
Guidelines for preparing your application
When preparing your application think of it as the opportunity to present your claims for the position. First obtain the job description from the Current employment opportunities section of this website.
If after you have read the job description you'd like further information about the position, you should speak to the contact officer listed in the advertisement.
The point of an application is to give sufficient information about your qualifications, abilities, personal qualities, experience and standard of work performance. It is the first step of the selection process and although it will not solely determine whether you are successful it will help us to form a decision on whether your will be considered further in the selection process. Therefore, your application should be an organised information paper written with the selection criteria in mind.
Your application should have:
- Application Cover Sheet
(The cover sheet provides a summary of you contact and personal details)
- Summary of your claims against the selection criteria
(This part should outline your claims against each of the criterion based on your previous experience and qualifications focussing on your past achievements to demonstrate your suitability to meet the criteria).
- Summary of your Work History Experience.
(This part should provide a brief summary of your work history and should be presented in a chronological format with your most recent experience and work history listed first.)
Written referee reports do not need to be submitted. You can supply two current referee names and contact details with your application or alternatively if you are successful in gaining an interview you should come prepared with the contact details for these referees.
The Selection Process
The NCA recruitment practices are based on the APS employment principles. The NCA is required to ensure that recruitment will be undertaken:
- as a competitive merit based assessment;
- with no discrimination or favouritism; and
- that the application of natural justice and procedural fairness will apply.
These principles and associated requirements are in accordance with the APS Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct and other provisions of the Public Service Act 1999 (PS Act), the Public Service Regulations 1999 (PS Regs), the Public Service Commissioner's Directions 2016 and the Public Service Classifications Rules.
The National Capital Authority uses streamlined selection processes and a mix of assessment methods, which may or may not involve an interview. From time to time the Authority may use the services of a recruitment search organisation to assist with the selection process. Applicants are advised to obtain the job description documentation and to structure their applications accordingly.
Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted regarding the next phase of the selection process. Please note that applications will not be acknowledged on receipt. To those applicants who are not shortlisted we extend our thanks for considering the Authority as a potential employer.
Australian citizenship is required for employment in the National Capital Authority; you can see more information on eligibility requirements on our jobs page.
Conditions of employment are in our Enterprise Agreement.
