9 May 2013
Weather permitting, the National Capital Authority will conduct a control burn of the Yarramundi grasslands on Sunday.
This burn is to reduce fuel loads, promote native grass growth and reduce exotic weed species in this area.
The control burn will cause some smoke in the area. Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of smoke.
Experienced Rural Fire Service fire-fighters will conduct the burning operation from 10:00am until 5:00pm on Sunday 12 May 2013.
The cycle/pedestrian pathway will be closed for short periods during the burn as a safety measure.
ACT Health advises that people with asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke.
People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
