Controlled Burn at Scrivener’s Hut Conservation Area, Saturday 21 April 2018

The National Capital Authority (NCA) advises that a controlled burn will occur between10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Saturday 21 April 2018 at Scrivener’s Hut Conservation Area, between State Circle and Capital Circle, Yarralumla (weather dependent).
Firefighters from the ACT Rural Fire Service will conduct the burn. While all efforts will be made to reduce smoke affecting nearby areas, people with asthma and other respiratory conditions are advised to avoid vigorous exercise in the area and to stay inside if affected by smoke.
There may also be some smoke impacts on nearby roads and cycle paths, and cyclists on cycle paths traversing the Reserve may experience some short delays.
To further ensure public safety, a traffic management plan is in place and additional signage and reduced speed zones will be in place to support both motorist and cyclists as appropriate.
Controlled burns are undertaken to address fuel build-up, and this particular grassy woodlands will be burnt under prescribed conditions to enhance the survival prospects of the native flora and fauna.
