Wattle Day Prelude at Government House – 31 August, 10:00am-11:30am, Government House Canberra
In anticipation of Wattle Day, students from St Clare of Assisi Primary School will present a ceremonial wattle basket to His Excellency General the Honourable David John Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley (nee McMartin). This will be followed by the planting of the Acacia pycnantha, Australia’s national floral emblem, and wattle-themed songs performed by the ACT Primary Concert Choir under the direction of Katharine Finlayson.
Honour the 35th anniversary of Australia's floral emblem at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. The Wattle Day Association will present seedlings of the Golden Wattle – Acacia pycnantha.
Wattle Walks: An Ode to Wattles – 4-10 September, 11:00am-12:00pm & 2:00pm-3:00pm
Discover the significance of the Golden Wattle, our floral emblem. Learn about its resilience post-Hiroshima bombings and its historical importance as a food source for inland Indigenous Australians. Join us for an enlightening walk, gathering at the clock near the bridge inside the gardens. No bookings required for individuals. Dr Suzette Searle (President of The Wattle Day Association) will be talking about Australia’s Golden Wattle – the national floral emblem at the Golden Wattle Garden (Cork Oak Road)at the National Arboretum Canberra.
