After a 5-year hiatus Canberra's favourite radio stations, Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3 are excited to announce that they have combined forces and are bringing back Skyfire in 2024!
Since the first Skyfire 1989, the event has been Canberra's favourite, free 1-day event. Over the following 30-years the show has grown from a smallish fireworks show set to a soundtrack played on then FM 104.7 in front of 10,000 people, to a day-long spectacular. Skyfire now offers a live entertainment stage at Regatta Point, aerial displays and food truck offerings set around the centrepiece of Canberra, Lake Burley Griffin and is viewed by at least one third of the ACT population.
On Saturday 16 March as the skies get darker the entertainment stage on the northside of the lake will start pumping as our show-hosts from both Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3 will warm up the crowd with musical artists and start the countdown to the main attraction - SKYFIRE 2024!!! A 20-minute-long pyrotechnic bonanza launched from barges situated in the central basin of Lake Burley Griffin including over 40,000 effects, 2,500 shells and 25,000 shooting comets, all set to a high energy soundtrack played simultaneously on Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3.
Planning is well underway for the 2024 event with plenty of announcements coming over the coming months, as organisers finalise content for the night. What is guaranteed, is a chance for Canberra to meet at the lake and join in celebrating with a fireworks spectacular above our city like we haven't seen in half a decade.
amplifyCBR's General Manager (operator of Hit 104.7 and Mix 106.3) Craig Wagstaff, says, "It's immensely exciting to announce that Canberra's largest single-day event is set to return in 2024. There's tremendous heritage and history around Skyfire as too, we feel, with both Hit104.7 and MIX106.3 - who will proudly present the event in-tandem. This is all possible via the genuine support the community of the Canberra-region and visitors alike, have always provided the event itself and both stations. We're appreciative to again receive the significant support of the ACT Government who along with the event's commercial sponsors (our partners), make the event possible together with the NCA, so many and varied agencies, local businesses and event-providers. Skyfire is back!"
