The NCA prepared a heritage management plan for Surveyors Hut and Surveyors Park in accordance with the requirements for Commonwealth Heritage Places set out under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
Purpose of Report
The National Capital Authority recently prepared a draft Heritage Management Plan for Surveyors Hut in accordance with the requirements for Commonwealth Heritage Listed Places under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999. The report also included Surveyors Park as part of the study area to enable a contextual approach to managing Surveyors Hut. The management plan was made available for public comment from 8 March to 11 April 2014. A public information session was held on 18 March 2014.
The Consultation Report outlines the submissions received, responses to comments and how the Heritage Management Plan was amended to reflect comments (where appropriate). The Consultation Report can be found below. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback.
All submissions provided constructive feedback, and were generally supportive of the Heritage Management Plan and the assessment and conservation approach recommended for Surveyors Hut. The main comments related to:
- Weed and tree management, especially in relation to the conservation area adjacent to Surveyors Park;
- Management of potential archaeological resources; and
- How Surveyors Hut met the Commonwealth Heritage List significance thresholds.
The draft management plan has been amended to reflect these comments.
