TODAY the annual Enlighten Festival will kick off and the NCA has been working closely with the ACT Government to put in a number of site and safety improvements to support this fantastic event.
Owing to customer feedback from previous Enlighten Festivals, the main changes that the public should be aware of include, additional parking for disabled patrons within the National Library carpark and modified traffic management changes.
Working in collaboration with the ACT Government and other precinct stakeholders the NCA has made improvements to site accessibility and public safety. Visitors and staff from the affected buildings within the zone should be aware of the changes to the traffic management and parking options. Most notably King Edward and King George terraces between Parkes Place East and Parkes Place West will be closed each night from 6 pm.
The ACT Government has put on two free shuttle buses to assist with the parking demand within the zone. These services will operate 1-2 & 8-9 March to help visitors move between the city, Russell carparks and the Enlighten Illuminations within the Parliamentary Zone. The first shuttle bus will operate on loop 5pm – 6pm. To find out more about the services offered visit https://enlightencanberra.com/get-your-questions-answered/
Several areas within the precinct have also undergone lighting inspections to make sure the estate lighting is operational and allows the projections to look their best.
“With such a well-loved event it is extremely important that the visitors can have the best experience possible and public safely is always on the forefront of our minds. This year we turned our attention to managing the volumes of people around the site and we will be testing a number of improvements. We are always keen to receive feedback on ways in which we can work with the ACT Government to ensure the site is activated and utilised to its best ability.”
“You will also see a boat on the water this year. The NCA is trialling some free lake cruises. These cruises will depart every 30 minutes from 5 pm to 9 pm, Friday 1 to Sunday 3 March and Friday 7 to Sunday 9 March. These cruises depart from Commonwealth Place Jetty and I hope that visitors will enjoy the beauty of Enlighten from the waters of Lake Burley Griffin,” said Sally Barnes, Chief Executive, National Capital Authority.
