The National Capital Authority (NCA) is encouraging attendees to Skyfire 2016 on Saturday, 19 March 2016, to plan their trip to the event as it will be affected by car park and road closures as well as parking enforcement.
Parking regulations to be enforced
The NCA will be enforcing parking regulations for the duration of the event and encourage the public to park legally to avoid the risk of being issued a Parking Infringement Notice. It is an offence under the National Land (Road Transport) Ordinance 2014 to park a vehicle on Open Space such as footpaths, grassed and landscaped areas.
Where to park
Parking around Commonwealth Park will be limited and Kings Park will be a vehicle-free zone. Limited parking will be available at the Russell precinct and off Constitution Avenue including Anzac Park East and West, Reid CIT, Civic Pool and Capital Hill car parks. Parking is also available within the Parliamentary Zone.
ACTION buses, in partnership with Hit 104.7, will provide additional services to take Canberrans to Lake Burley Griffin with free chartered return services to major bus stations afterwards. For more information on ACTION’s Skyfire services visit www.action.act.gov.au or call 13 17 10.
Car park and road closures – Jet practice flyover
There are several car park and road closures in place on Saturday 19 March 2016 for Skyfire, including the temporary closure of Commonwealth Avenue bridge on Friday, 18 March 2016, between 6.30 pm – 6.50 pm for practice flyovers of a jet in preparation for the event.
Pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be closed in both directions for a maximum of 10 minutes. The road and footpaths will be opened as soon as possible. Traffic in the area will be directed by traffic marshals.
