New signage is being developed by the National Capital Authority (NCA) to acknowledge the patrons who contributed to the restoration of the Old Parliament House Gardens in Canberra.

On 4 December 2014, the Old Parliament House Gardens will celebrate ten years since the restored gardens were officially opened to the public. This also marks the conclusion of the Old Parliament House Gardens Patronage Program.

NCA Chief Executive, Malcolm Snow said ëlocals and visitors have formed a strong connection to the gardens over the years. It has become a place to celebrate, share memories, reflect and to relax with family and friends.í

ëThe NCA is grateful to patrons who sponsored roses as part of the program when it was formally launched by the patron Mrs Tamie Fraser AO in November 2002í.

ëA $100 donation covered the cost of a rose, planting, ten years maintenance and recognition as a patron in the gardens,í Mr Snow said.

Interpretive signage will be installed highlighting the invaluable support provided by the patrons. Ground level signage identifying the rose species will also continue to be managed by the NCA.

It will replace the individual plaques which include the names of patrons. These plaques will be archived for posterity. Additional patron and sponsor information will be available on the NCAís website.

To further acknowledge the contribution of patrons and to mark the conclusion of the program, the NCA has also commissioned a book written by Dr John Gray OAM titled, ëRoses, Tennis & Democracyí. This will be sent to patrons in December 2014.

Patrons who have not received a letter about the program conclusion are advised to contact the NCA before 31 October 2014 on (02) 6271 2888 or email natcap@natcap.gov.au†to receive a copy of Dr Grayís book. An electronic copy of Dr Grayís book will also be placed on the NCA website.†
