Agreement Reached with Barton Takeaway
12 August 2014
The National Capital Authority (NCA) and Gaby's Takeaway have entered into an agreement allowing the business to continue trading until 30 June 2015.
Gabyís Takeaway, located next to York Park in Barton, operates under a Temporary Trader Permit, allocated on an annual basis. In May 2014, the NCA advised the owners of Gaby's Takeaway that the permit would not be renewed after its expiry on 12 October 2014.
NCA Chief Executive, Malcolm Snow said the permit has now been extended to the end of the financial year.
'The owners of the takeaway requested more time to make other arrangements for their business,' he said.
'In considering the request, we determined the current works planned for the site could be staged around the extended permit arrangement.
'Landscape enhancement works on Windsor Walk will continue this financial year as planned, however sufficient area will be retained around the takeaway to enable the owners to trade in the short term,' Mr Snow said.
On 30 June 2015, the takeaway will cease operation at the current site. The site will be cleared in early July.
The original establishment of the takeaway was to service the needs of construction workers in the area. Much of this construction work is now complete. There are also more than ten other cafes and restaurants in the area, each of which pay rent for the spaces they occupy.
Gaby's Takeaway was advised five years ago that a Temporary Traders Permit would be allocated on an annual basis, and that future works were planned for the site.
