Control Burn at the Guilfoyle Street Grasslands, Yarralumla this Sunday

Media Release

19 August 2016

Weather permitting, the National Capital Authority will conduct a control burn of the Guilfoyle Street Grasslands this Sunday from 10 am until 1 pm. This conservation grassland is located between Guilfoyle Street and Adelaide Ave, Yarralumla.

Experienced Rural Fire Service fire fighters will conduct the burning operation.

This burn is to reduce fuel loads, promote native grass growth and reduce exotic weed species in this area.

The control burn will cause some smoke in the area.  Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of smoke.

ACT Health advises that people with asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
