Control Burn in Yarralumla

Media Release

1 May 2015

The National Capital Authority will conduct a control burn of a small area of grassy woodland in Stirling Park scheduled for this Saturday 2 May.

Weather permitting, experienced Rural Fire Service fire fighters will conduct the burning operation from 10 am until 7 pm on Saturday.

This burn is to reduce fuel loads, promote native grass growth and reduce exotic weed species in this area.

The control burn will cause some smoke in the area. Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of smoke.

The exact day will be determined ahead of the first appropriate weekend, based on weather forecasts and availability of fire crews.

ACT Health advises that people with asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by the smoke.

People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
