Control Burn in Yarramundi Grasslands this Sunday

Media Release

27 March 2015

The National Capital Authority will conduct a control burn of a small area of native grassland this weekend.

Weather permitting, experienced Rural Fire Service fire fighters will conduct the burning operations in the following location:

Yarramundi Grasslands, behind the Indigenous Centre, Lady Denman Drive (near Glenlock Interchange)

Sunday 29 March 2015, 10:00 am until 5:00 pm

The burn will reduce fuel loads, promote native grass growth and reduce exotic weed species in this area.

There will be short delays expected on the cycle path through the Yarramundi Grasslands.

The control burn will cause some smoke in the area. Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of smoke.

ACT Health advises that people with asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay inside if affected by smoke.

People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
