Prescribed burn in Yarralumla

The National Capital Authority (NCA) with the assistance of the Gungahlin Rural Fire Brigade intends to undertake a small ecological/prescribed burn on conservation grasslands adjacent to Lady Denman Drive, south of the Governor General’s lookout.

Weather permitting, experienced firefighters will conduct the burning operation from 6.30 pm – 9.00 pm on the evening of Wednesday 19 August 2015.

The burn is required to ensure the biodiversity and structure of the natural temperate grassland community and as a fuel reduction and weed suppression method.

The controlled burn will cause some smoke within the area. However, every effort will be made to minimise the impact of the smoke.

ACT Health advises that people with asthma and other chronic respiratory diseases who may be affected by the smoke, should not perform vigorous exercise in this area and should stay indoors. People with asthma in particular should continue their medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
