Temporary car park closures

Media Release

31 March 2014

The National Capital Authority advises the first stage of upgrade works will commence in the car park adjacent to the York Park Oak Plantation (York Park car park) and Windsor Walk in Barton from Monday 14 April 2014.

The works include car park resurfacing, line marking, installation of parking machines, landscaping and footpath improvements.

New access points will also be created into the York Park car park, to improve sightlines along Windsor Walk for motorists entering and exiting the car park.

Due to the nature of these works, the York Park car park in Barton will be temporarily closed from Saturday 12 April and will reopen on 1 July 2014.

Windsor Walk will remain open for much of the project, to allow access to adjacent buildings. There will be temporary closures of some car spaces, however many spaces will remain open along Windsor Walk during the upgrade works.

NCA Chief Executive, Malcolm Snow said the works have been timed to ensure the car parks are upgraded before pay parking commences on 1 July 2014.

'The York Park car park and Windsor Walk have been assessed†as requiring resurfacing. The Australian Government provided funding for these works to be complete before the end of the financial year,' Mr Snow said.

'We appreciate this will be an inconvenience, however we ask for the community's patience as we undertake this necessary work.'

Speed limits will be temporarily reduced in the area to facilitate the works and improve safety.

Signage will be installed on site from tomorrow advising motorists of the temporary closures.
