Going in to bat for the Commonwealth Park Flying-Foxes
The National Capital Authority (NCA) is pleased to announce it will be working with expert consultants Ecosure, to develop the Commonwealth Park Grey-Headed Flying-Fox Camp Management Plan. The Plan will provide a framework to guide the NCA’s management of Commonwealth Park while also being committed to the protection of the flying-fox camp. The draft Commonwealth Park Flying-Fox Management Plan is available to download here.
All flying-foxes are protected under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (the Act). The grey headed flying-fox (Pteropus poliocephalus) which visits Commonwealth Park is a vulnerable species and considered to be a matter of national significance under the Act. Management of flying-foxes or their habitat must be in line with the Australian Government’s “Referral guideline for management actions in grey-headed and spectacled flying-fox camps” and the “Draft Recovery Plan for the grey headed flying-fox Pteropus poliocephalus”.
