NCA welcomes Jenny Smithson to the Authority

The National Capital Authority (NCA) is pleased to welcome new board member, Ms Jenny Smithson, to the Authority.

The NCA Chair, Mr Terry Weber, expressed his enthusiasm in Ms Smithson joining the Authority, “Jenny Smithson is a qualified and experienced Town Planner who brings decades of leadership in key areas to the Authority as former, and current Acting, Commissioner of the New South Wales Land and Environment Court and former Sessional Member of the Western Australian State Administrative Tribunal.

“With other key roles in town planning, development matters, governance and community engagement across WA, NSW and the ACT, and as a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Ms Smithson brings a wealth of experience to the Authority and to the important role of board member to the NCA.”

Ms Smithson held previous board positions with the Western Australian Land Development Authority (LandCorp); as former Senior Principal of international engineering based consultancy, Cardno BSD Pty Ltd; the Planning Institute of Australia and BSD Consultants.

“It’s a pleasure to have joined the National Capital Authority and to work on important projects that help grow and change our capital. I attended my first Authority meeting last week and look forward to my term ahead,” said Ms Smithson.

“Joining the Authority from Sydney and previously from Perth, Ms Smithson’s vast experience complements other existing member skills and will help oversee NCA’s operations while maintaining our commitment to the Canberra community by applying the NCA’s mission to all our work,” said Mr Terry Weber.

“The mission ensures that Canberra is a valued and respected place for all Australians by ensuring that our National Capital is well planned, managed and promoted consistent with its national significance,” said Mr Terry Weber.

Current Authority Members – Mr Terry Weber, Mr Dennis Richardson and Ms Sally Barnes are pleased to have Ms Smithson join NCA’s primary decision making body, providing strategic direction for the agency, meeting six times throughout the year.
