Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS). The National Capital Authority (NCA) is comprised of three (3) branches, the Chief Executive, Operations, and Planning and Design.
The Chief Executive Branch is responsible for supporting the functions of the Authority and promoting the National Capital to the broader community. This Branch has sections involving strategic implementation legal, governance, marketing, media and communication. The branch employs legal, governance, marketing and communications people.
The Planning Branch is responsible for keeping the National Capital Plan under constant review and proposing its amendment when necessary or indicated. This work involves planning policy, assessing works approval applications, and associated tasks. The Branch also manages a range of design and construction projects, the NCA’s heritage work and diplomatic land in the National Capital. The Branch employs architects, town planners, project managers, and administrative staff.
The Operations Branch is responsible for the effective management and enhancement of the National Estate, including the NCA’s natural and built assets, valued at around $1.4 billion. Operations is also responsible for the NCA’s finances, procurement, commercial licences, human resources, business systems, and work health and safety arrangements. The Branch employs staff in horticulture, engineering, project management, IT, human resources, accounting, and a number of other specialties.
Positions available through the temporary employment register will be non-ongoing for an initial period of up to 12 months. These may be offered on a full-time or part-time depending on the business needs of the area.
