Description of works

Improvements to Rond Terrace include the installation of six new flagpoles and the first stage of upgrades to the landscape.

Background

Located on the northern foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin's Central Basin, Rond Terrace is part of the Parliament House Vista, within the National Triangle.

Originally designed as parade grounds for military events, Rond Terrace is on the Central Land Axis of the Griffin's design.

In 2019 the Canadian Flagpole at Regatta Point needed to be removed, allowing a refocus on Rond Terrace to host the Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony. The two new sets of three flagpoles to fly the Australia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags will be in place for Australia Day 2022.

Please see architect impression and link to road closure page below for further information.
