Current arrangements for cyclists and cars to share the road along London Circuit around the Edinburgh Avenue stop is awkward and potentially dangerous.
It would be much more expedient to simply close a portion of London Circuit to motor vehicles altogether (say, between Edinburgh Avenue and Hobart Place or West Row). Not only would it free up space for cyclists and pedestrians, but it would simplify traffic arrangements and make the area generally more appealing. Simply reducing the speed limit to 20 km/h is a poor compromise, especially when there is little in the way of physical infrastructure to prevent drivers from exceeding that limit.
It would also mitigate the issue by building protected cycling infrastructure around Vernon Circle so as to provide a safe cycling route through the city and over the lake. The same could be said for connecting and upgrading the cycling infrastructure connecting Marcus Clarke Street and Commonwealth Park via the pathetically narrow footbridge over Parkes Way.
