I strongly support this project. Light rail is consistent with the original plans for Canberra, as well as being an important amenity for a rapidly growing city.
Besides general support, I have two specific comments.
Firstly, as a daily user of active travel (cycling in my case) in the Parliamentary Triangle, I am strongly of the view that light rail 2A must be used as an opportunity to improve cycling and walkability. All intersections and other infrastructure should be designed to prioritise fast, safe, and efficient movement of people on bikes and on foot above people in cars.
Secondly, I think the failure to position a stop as close to the ANU as possible - ideally at the end of University Avenue - is a mistake. I would suggest adding a stop there, as it’s a significant destination and students are more likely to be dependent on public transport. If it’s necessary to sacrifice a stop to do this, I see little value in the city south stop.
