This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Australian Honours and Awards system, which includes prestigious recognitions such as the Order of Australia, the Australian Bravery Decorations, and the National Medal.
To commemorate this milestone, the National Capital Exhibition proudly presents a special display of Commemorative Medals, honouring the remarkable achievements of past recipients.
Founded on 14 February 1975, the honours and awards system were established to recognise the exceptional service and significant achievements of Australians from all walks of life.
In the past 50 years, more than 1 million people have received honours across 60 awards. These awards recognise people who make a significant impact, serve their communities and exemplify the values of unity and compassion.
The exhibition is open until 8 September 2025, with visiting hours from 9:00am to 5:00pm on weekdays and 10:00am to 4:00pm on weekends.
We acknowledge the Ngunnawal people as traditional custodians of the ACT and recognise any other people or families with connection to the lands of the ACT and region.
We acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.
