The National Triangle is Canberra’s cultural precinct. It features cultural icons, national treasures, open spaces and tells our stories. From the indigenous dreamtime to the creation of a Capital, and many political events along the way.
The National Triangle is a vibrant event space, and home to Canberra’s premier events including Floriade, Enlighten and the dazzling drone show FLIGHT. Take a tour of Anzac Parade, the National Carillon or Reconciliation Place to learn more about our rich history or take a relaxing walk around the shores of beautiful Lake Burley Griffin and take a break at one of the eateries along the way. Visit one of the many museums and galleries which house impressive permanent collections and exciting short-term exhibitions and discover the many statues, monuments, and memorials in between.
Join our guides to explore some of the memorials along Anzac Parade, walk through the pathway at Reconciliation Place as it tells the story of progress towards becoming a reconciled nation and visit Canberra’s most photographed building, the National Carillon, see the behind-the scenes of the instrument.
Anzac Parade sits below the Australian War Memorial and features 13 grand memorials which honour the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of Australian and New Zealand soldiers. From the towering bronze statues of the Boer War Memorial to the sacred amphitheatre of the Australian Hellenic Memorial, a visit to Anzac Parade offers a powerful retrospective and one you won’t forget.
Reconciliation Place tells the history of indigenous Australia dating from the dreamtime to today. See ancient stone carvings recreated and hear the unmistakable sound of bogong moths migrating at the sculpture that symbolises communities coming together to share stories and food. Learn about Senator Neville Bonner, Eddie Mabo and indigenous athletes and soldiers. Quietly acknowledge and reflect for the children of the Stolen Generation. A thought-provoking and emotive experience.
The National Carillon is one of Canberra’s most cherished landmarks. Gifted by the United Kingdom for Canberra's 50th birthday, and opened in 1970, it houses 57 bronze bells that majestically ring out across the water. Tours offer an unforgettable experience. Enter the imposing structure to learn its colourful 56-year history, watch the Carillonists in action, inspect the giant bells and catch the panoramic views across the lake to the mountains.
Our team of talented carillonists perform a wide variety of music, from Bach to Star Wars, and you may hear them practicing during the week. You may also recognise the Westminster Chimes which chime on the quarter hour throughout the day. Come along to one of our regular concerts, tours, or special events and discover this hidden gem. Recitals are held weekly on Wednesday and Sunday.
