Submitter: Robin EckermannRaising of London Circuit
I am mystified why this proposal is being put forward independently of the ill-considered extension of the light rail network to Woden - an initiative which will have an adverse on travel times for public transport patrons and vehicles alike. Is it a thinly disguised attempt to downplay the cost of the Woden light rail extension?
Canberra ratepayers do not have infinite capacity to support profligate spending on expanding an outdated light rail network when more efficient, faster, less disruptive, less costly, less environmentally damaging and more flexible options are available. The only thing worse than acknowledging a poor past decision (made to buy political power) is to build a massive monument to bad governance. The continuing investment in an initiative that involve more costs than benefits is creating an unsustainable level of debt.
The city has many higher priority needs such as maintaining the infrastructure already in place, improving public health care and education and creating a public transport solution that benefits everyone. These are all much more important than the raising of London Circuit and the creeping perversion of a city plan to serve the needs of a light rail network.
