Submitter: JodieRaising of London Circuit
We think another proposal should be considered.
Instead of raising London Circuit, car traffic at Northbourne Avenue should be lowered.
Key points about this proposal:
- Northbourne Avenue would be lowered from around Barry Drive and continue in a tunnel under City Hill.
- Light Rail would continue at level and a pedestrian/bike space created between the Melbourne and Sydney buildings. This would encourage active travel, create a lively hub in the city and connect New Acton to Civic for pedestrians.
- Private Enterprise would be asked to tender for a large carpark under City Hill, which would give them a lucrative ongoing source of funding in the future, it would fund the lowering of Northbourne Avenue, and it would ensure there a large amount of parking provided in the city, particularly as the current car parks become buildings.
