I write to support the expert comments already provided to you by Mr Richard Johnston of Kingston.
The RLC represents a drastic, expensive and highly disruptive method of providing for future light rail to Woden , when the business case for this development does not stack up and the extension beyond Commonwealth Park, many years into the future, requires further approvals and financial support which may not eventuate. The RLC and associated programs should not be approved until the whole of the extension to Woden has been validated through rigorous cost benefit analysis and all necessary approvals have been obtained.
In addition I would draw two particular issues to the NCA’s attention.
1) the impact on emergency service vehicles of the forecast severe traffic disruption, which could in extremis lead to loss of life and property;
2) the potential impact of the traffic disruption on routes leading from Parliament House to the airport, or by road to Sydney, on VIP visitors to Canberra including Guests of Government, as well as on the efficient functioning of Parliament.
