The National Capital Authority is undertaking major renewal works on Commonwealth Avenue Bridge with changed traffic arrangements to support preliminary construction activities commencing from Thursday 13 November 2025.
These activities include:
Access across both sides of the bridge will be maintained during these preliminary works, however there will be lane closures.
Sections of Commonwealth Avenue and the whole of Commonwealth Avenue Bridge will be reduced to two lanes in both directions for the duration of these works, with additional lane closures in off-peak hours as required.
Lane closures will be implemented gradually with the northbound closure in place from Thursday 13 November 2025 and southbound closure from Tuesday 18 November 2025.
In addition there will be a lane closure of Flynn Drive westbound on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 November 2025 between the hours of 7:00am and 6:00pm daily to facilitate delivery of site sheds to the new site compound.
There will be minor impacts during these works and road users are encouraged to allow extra travel time.
These activities are expected to be completed in mid-December 2025 (weather permitting).
The main bridge construction work will begin in January 2026.
Further details including the start date for the closure of the western bridge span and arrangements for path users, will be announced in the coming weeks.
