Draft Heritage Management Plan - King George V Memorial

The King George V Memorial was completed in 1953 and was centred on the Land Axis in front of the Provisional (Old) Parliament House, adjacent to the site of the existing Aboriginal Tent Embassy. The Memorial was relocated to its current location on the west side of the land axis in 1968. As an example of Inter-War Art Deco architecture, the Memorial reflects the importance of the Australian Head of State and commemorates King George V who was the Monarch at the time of the opening of (Old) Parliament House.

The King George V Memorial has been included on the Commonwealth Heritage List since 2004. 

Under section 341X(3) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, the National Capital Authority (NCA), welcomes comments on the draft Heritage Management Plans from members of the public, Indigenous People with rights and interests to the place, key stakeholders and community groups by 5.00pm, Monday 7 September 2026.
