The National Capital Authority (NCA) has received a works approval application for a new public artwork titled The City She Drew, to be installed in the median of Commonwealth Avenue, north of the intersection with London Circuit. The proposal forms part of the Light Rail Stage 2A project and includes a sculpture honouring Marion Mahony Griffin, set on a low concrete base with surrounding landscaping. The works also include lighting for the artwork, minor underground services, and a small plaque providing information about the piece and the artist.
The works are being delivered by Canberra Metro on behalf of the ACT Government as part of the Light Rail Stage 2A project.
The purpose of the proposal is to install a permanent public artwork that recognises the contribution of Marion Mahony Griffin and enhances the public realm along Commonwealth Avenue.
The plans and supporting documentation for the application can be viewed below.
The NCA welcomes feedback on this application by 5:00pm Tuesday 9 June 2026.
Submissions can be made by email to: WAconsultation@nca.gov.au.
